"New Normal" 2 - More Photos from Around Town

Working backwards through my recent photo collection backlog, here are some more shots taken from around town this weekend. It's amazing being in places that you see on the news... actually being the news for once is a strange feeling...

 Life carries on...
Army and police still many the many cordons around the central city
And up close, the rubble still looks as confrontational as ever... (Carlton Corner Hotel, where the news crews often broadcast now, given that their HQ is now just a bunch of prefabs on a former car yard just meters down the road)

The temporary "home" of TV station nowadays. That satellite dish on the roof is the only thing keeping images from this region pumping out to the rest of the country whenever we do a broadcast now...

Looking into no-mans' land. Down Victoria Street (in the distance, you can see a clock tower slightly damaged, with the tip thingy on a visible lean). The big tall "BDO Spicers" (formerly Qantas HQ, among other things) building on the left is apparently "critical", and likely to come down.

Some more sights from around the Carlton Corner/Victoria St + Papanui Road + Bealey Ave intersection taken during earlier excursions.

Road closures and "unexpected diversions" are the norm.

EVEN in more "posh" parts of town... In fact, that's where some of the worst damage occurred too this time...

The brick facade has just fallen off this bunch of shops at Merivale Mall...
And St Mary's church has lost its bell tower.

But it could be said that times like this bring out the best in people. For instance, a bit of national pride for a change :)
